What is Swim United?
Swim United is Speedo’s international water safety initiative which originated in the UK (learn more here). Speedo recognised the desperate need for drowning prevention and water safety in South Africa and the Swim United program grew.
We decided to partner up with the NSRI in their ground-breaking Survival Swimming Centres. Speedo is the very first title sponsor of one of these centres. The centre we sponsored will be placed in Tombo, 20 km from Port St. Johns, in the Eastern Cape.
The NSRI is a well-established and renowned non-profit organisation which delivers an essential rescue service and offers various drowning prevention programs (learn more here), one of them being the Survival Swimming Centre's.
The Survival Swimming Centre is a 12-metre shipping container that has been converted into a portable swimming pool. The Centre will be placed in a rural area where there is no access to swimming pool facilities. An instructor will then teach the children of that community the basic survival swimming skills giving these kids an advantage and fighting chance they otherwise would never have had before.
