What are some of your most memorable moments or achievements?
Some of my most memorable moments and achievements include my Robben Island crossing https://www.instagram.com/p/CUVFfK1qOpD/. I completed it in a wetsuit and would like to do it again, possibly aiming to improve my time. Additionally, participating in my first 70.3 Ironman in 2022, and soon I am excited to add my first full IRONMAN to the list of achievements, 3.8km swim, 180km bike and 42.2km run.
What are some of your top tips?
Definitely for open water swimming to focus on your breathing, as soon as your face is in the water, focus on exhaling, this will drop you into your parasympathetic nervous system, the calming one, and help you to relax. Don't hit open water swims too fast to start as that pushes us into sympathetic nervous system and there is nothing worse than having a panic attack out in the ocean. Swim with a buddy and most importantly, make sure you're having fun, pushing ourselves can be fun but when we lose that sense of fun, then what's the point.
Apart from swimming, what do you do for fun?
Besides swimming, I find enjoyment and fulfilment in Triathlon, where I can combine swimming, biking, and running into a single race. This keeps things interesting and helps focus my attention. Additionally, I also practice a lot of yoga and strength work to keep me injury free.
What is your favourite Speedo product and why?
I love the Speedo Biofuse goggles, they are designed with triathletes in mind, so it’s hard to adjust the strap length once it's set up, also they fit my face correctly and don't hurt when I swim. I also LOVE the mermaid speedo swimsuit, anything in turquoise and purple is my jam.
